This cool vintage box is made of mahogany and was originally from Havana Cuba. A guess would be late 30's early 40's.

I was wanting a dark finish on the neck (mahogany) to tie in with the box but wanting something other than stain or paint.I took a torch to it and burn't it until some of the neck started to char. I then rough sanded it (very messy) and worked my way up to 220 grit after which I finished it off with coconut wax. The pics really don't convey how nice the neck feels. A small body but big sound.

Burnt Mahogany
Burnt Mahogany neck,3 pc Mahogany headstock, brass nut and saddle, wenge bridge with piezo pickup. I was wanting a dark finish on the neck (mahogany) to tie in with the box but wanting something other than stain or paint.I took a torch to it and burn't it until some of the neck started to char. I then rough sanded it (very messy) and worked my way up to 220 grit after which I finished it off with coconut wax. The pics really don't convey how nice the neck feels. A small body but big sound.
